Earth Day Volunteer Event and Net-Zero Energy Building Tour

Overview

The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 with 20 million Americans taking part.  The movement that followed is often credited for the passage of environmental laws that protect health and safety, preserve natural environments and enable responsible economic growth.  Now, more than 1 billion people take part in Earth Day activities across the globe every year.

Choose Your Own Adventure!

Options were abound for this FREE workshop.  Participants joined Sustainable Pittsburgh for a unique point-earning opportunity that gave them the flexibility to select the activity that fit their schedule and interests.  Those who wished joined the Forest Hills community Earth Day clean-up, and earned points in the Challenge under action Q20: Volunteer with local organizations.  The clean-up was followed by a picnic, where Sustainable Pittsburgh honored the 2018 first-quarter ribbon-earners!  Afterward, there was a tour of Forest Hills’ recently-completed borough building, featuring net-zero energy operation, storm water management landscaping, and locally-sourced materials.
